I along with two others recently started designing an online email page called SuperMail. It will allow you to send large files 1-100 megs in size, relatively fast. Although that would be extremely difficult to program and would require most users to have Cable and above, I'm sure it's still possible. Here are the plans below of features that will be in SuperMail.
- Plan 1 - Send files 1-25 megs in size, all other features included. $4.00 a month
- Plan 2 - Send files 1-50 megs in size, ditto. $8.00 a month
- Plan 3 - Send files 1-100 megs in size. $10.00 a month
- Plan 4 - Normal email service, send files 1-5 megs in size. $3.00 a month
This email service will be mainly for modders of games, looking for an easy-to-use email to send large files over the Internet. If it is successful in the gaming community... Version 1.1 will include the ability to create skins and use them as a background that will not be visible to others. If you are willing to help be a programmer or tester, please contact me at "smeagol2000@hotmail.com"
We've already discussed this extensively on the YPN fora, but I think the people who don't visit there might like some more information. What makes your service more than allowing users to download gzipped files from an ftp or scp site you set up? From our conversation there, it sounds like you haven't even planned as much as I've said, and you have very little understanding of the mathematical realities that make anything much more effective than that impossible. -- AdamChlipala
He wrote than without signing-up on the wiki and only left his email for contact. Do you really expect he'll come back? -- FrancoisDenisGonthier
I think, perhaps, gmail has beat you. You might, however, consider incorporating a proper privacy option into your project, as gmail/yahoo/hotmail are, as far as I'm concerned, not satisfactory at blocking spam emails. Give it some thought, you'll come up with a solution. -- s3b
