Logo for HProg
I think there should be a logo for HProg, to replace the guy holding the Moin, Moin! sign in the top left corner.
I was thinking, since a logo is not totally programming related, we could make it:
- Have the logo be generated by a program you create.

General Reformatting Ideas
We might want to change or move the "Fellowship of Hobbyist Programers" text in the menubar table... right now it's making the table three lines tall when all the links are 1 line each... -- DavidYust
New stylesheet 2
Another idea for a stylesheet - basically blue on a slightly dimmed white, with a few formatting changes. You can get it or point to it here: http://www.thedevelopersalliance.com/~delta/moinmoin.css
This was done in under 5 minutes, but so far its looking good. - DavidYust
It sure motivates you to create pages that there are links to with the nice bold red text on a white background. Some of the links are still orange and while that looks good they might look a bit better as a darker blue (no biggy though) -- JeffreyKnaggs
I think that we should stress that FHP is about programmers. We can bring this personal aspect to our brand image by utilizing logos that have our own faces:

Jeremy's sums up what I think some people would imagine we're like quite nicely :p. They aren't bad, nice and simple. Maybe if they rotated randomly? Seeing that picture of Adam every time I come here would begin to errode away at my sanity. -- JeffreyKnaggs
I really like this idea, but I think it should be made reasonably easy for people to add their own pictures, perhaps through a web upload thing (moderated to avoid rude pictures getting on). That way the logo could also be a bit of a who's who of hprog. --IainMcCoy
My initial reaction to this was negative, but who am I to go against the will of the masses! Don't y'all think it would at least be nice to have a consistent font? -- AdamChlipala
In that case, I vote for either font #1 or #3. -- DavidYust
I think the font colors should change, but not the fonts themselves. The colors that are currently there all look good with the pictures, so use those with a consistent font. Oh, and I think #1 is the most professional looking. Some of the others remind me of Comic Sans. -- MikeNolan
Can we run a script to generate the logo dynamically? I seem to remember the gimp being able to do this (but that would mean running the gimp in server mode continuously). I bet it would be easy to allow people to upload a small picture that is then processed by a cron job during a low usage time to generate all of the logos from newly uploaded images (using imagemagick), and then a quick cgi that returns a random image from a logo dir could be used as the src target of the img tag for the logo. Along with an interface somewhere where logos can be deleted. -- ClintonEbadi

I don't think it's appropriate to have the IRC channel mentioned. I think this should just be a good-looking, distinctive logo with the name of our group on it somewhere. Showing a GUI window (and from MS Windows, no less!) is also rather cliche, so I don't really like that part. Something simple would be best. -- AdamChlipala
Waaay too much details on a single small image. Beside what Adam already said, you can barely recognize the site in the screen-shot. It could be any other wiki with default MoinMoin style. -- FrancoisDenisGonthier
I like the basic idea: just make it a bit bigger, and get rid of the window and maybe the channel name. Otherwise, nice. -- CharlesKrohn
If you make it bigger and get rid of the window and channel name, all you have is text. Isn't a textual reminder that you're at the hprog website good enough? In my opinion, this matter probably shouldn't be getting more attention then the more important things that need to be done. -- JeffreyKnaggs
"Tis a bit cluttered, so perhaps the best thing to do would be remove the screenshot and address, and simply enlarge the rest to fill the gap? --DavidStill
This is awesome! -- JasonMendes
I love it.. nice!! -- Rafik Rezzik
I didn't put this here, by the way.
-- SethArlington
What do the fellas have to do with programming? -- AdamChlipala
1.) A fellowship 2.) The Matrix. I don't think it's particularly good, but some people seem to like it. So whatever. -- SethArlington
I don't know quite why, but I'd prefer not to have the domain name be the focus, or maybe not have it appear at all. The fact that the guys are wearing suits seems odd, given that this group is for hobbyists, not businesspeople. -- AdamChlipala
Fair enough. Suggestions are welcome. -- SethArlington
I agree with Adam about the domain name. Also, isn't this logo just a piece of clipart with guys in suits and some fancy fonts that say the name? I'm going on vacation, but when I get back I'm going to read about the image file formats, and try and see if I can generate something! I like that idea better :-). -- MikeNolan
Clipart; no. But you're right -- that's about all it has going for it. -- SethArlington
Please, move the blokes in suits off to the left of the writing, because the way they are loses a bit of the balance of the image. Moving them slightly to the left gives them more relevance to the text, and makes it look better. -- DavidStill
Yes, I have to agree with Adam. Unless an image will greatly change morale I don't really care, but the last thing I want to be associated with is wearing a tie. -- JeffreyKnaggs
I like your logo SethArlington but i would prefer if its transperant and this 3 agents aren't there --henning
-- DavidYust Just a basic thing, when I get a chance to play around on my other comp i'll make something better.
New stylesheet (Updated!)
I have hacked a new stylesheet by mixing TPU blue stylesheet by gian with MoinMoin default styles.
The stylesheet has moved to http://home.tpu.org/~neumann/hprog-css/tpu-blue.css . Please update.
It's only a quick hack so that HProg looks like my favorite TPU.org colors. You can use the stylesheet by editing the stylesheet path in your preferences but I suppose everyone already knows that.
I also tried to make a lighter FrontPage. It's at FrontPage/AlternativeFrontPage1. Tell me what you think please.
The new stylesheet looks great. Good work! -- MarkusB
It requires more work actually. It was hacked pretty quickly. For example, your comment just above mine uses a serifed font and some text of the editor page too. This is probably fixable. If you use the stylesheet, don't be surprised if it changes a bit in the next days -- FrancoisDenisGonthier
I have tried to fix my stylesheet by looking a bit more carefully are the kind of HTML code MoinMoin produces and was surprised how awful it was. There are some UNSTYLABLE bits everywhere. The most striking one is <p>;<hr>Some stuff with no </p>. I set the text back to serif font-family, which I find harder to read. -- FrancoisDenisGonthier
Very pretty, I'm sticking with it! -- JeffreyKnaggs
The stylesheet takes away the bold color for WikiWords that have no page. This is bad right now when the wiki is young because it removes the reminder for people to add pages and content. --MikeLeonhard
Thank you Mike. I'll look into it. I think my preference are set so WikiWords with no page don't appear bold. -- FrancoisDenisGonthier
Err, Adam, after I fix my style-sheet, could you put it somewhere on the server. My current host seems to be unreliable lately? -- FrancoisDenisGonthier
