I moved the suggested new FrontPage to the actual FrontPage, with a few changes. I took out the mentions of WantedPages and DedicatedContributors. I don't mean for this wiki to have a central role in this group, so encouraging people to add to it for its own sake is rubbish and can only encourage low quality. I'd encourage people with such an urge to instead get involved with existing suggestions for community activities, like GroupCodingSessions and ProjectShowcase, or suggest new ones. -- AdamChlipala

Everyone misunderstood me when I talked about daily contributions. In fact, replying to you on this page is enough of a contribution for me. This ensures there is something new to read every day.

I'm still skeptical about the potential of success of GroupCodingSessions using CodeApplet. Whenever such a session is held, it should be advertised very clearly on the FrontPage. That way we _may_ attract genuinely interrested people along curious #hprog users.

OK, does anyone else think that we should change the default MoinMoin style to something original to hprog? I have a few ideas, so let me know if you feel the same way, and discuss yours here. -- MikeNolan

I already done that. I made a MoinMoin style using TPU blue stylesheet. I've been using it for a while now. -- FrancoisDenisGonthier

And I think this has been discussed in HprogLogo, for some reason. -- AdamChlipala

Dont forget paler, I added a few lines to make it "work" in MoinMoin here try it here http://spunge.org/~lukyanov/tpu-paler.css.

Why did you choose a Wiki, over, say, a forum and the ability to post tutorials? I of course respect your decision, but am just wondering why.

This site is a living information mine. It's much more than the simple hability to post tutorial at will. It's more flexible than a forum while still allowing most what we could do in it.

But, what makes it more than the ability to post a tutorial at will? The ability to edit other's materials? That could be achieved on each tutorial posted, but why not have a wiki and a message board then?

Because the Wiki can play the role of a message board, just like you are doing now. Having the 2 systems would be redundant. If we had both a message board and a wiki, people would likely post their technical questions on the message board, thus removing some good potential content for the wiki. I think that a good discussion with technical.

Due to the linear nature of message boards, the questions posted soon gets forgotten (read: they become old and can be found be mostly by searching). Anybody will then come back and ask the same question again. The dynamic nature of the wiki makes it less likely. If the content of the wiki is well-maintained, ie: not more than 1 page per subject, someone looking for some kind of informations will likely find the right page to ask his question or will notice that someone already asked it.

I've got some other reasons why it's not good to have a wiki and a message board for the same community. I think the 2 above a pretty good on their own. I'll detail or add news reasons upon request.

PLEASE remember to sign your comments. Thanks.--MikeLeonhard

Why is signing your posts necessary? If it were a requirement, I'm sure there could be a simple way to tack on a name to every post made by an individual using cookies. Otherwise it's so easy to forget. -cowsarenotevil
